What has been a wild ride in the recruitment of Jairus Brents has taken another bizarre twist. Back in April of 2017 Brents announced his top ten, which did not include Louisville. Well things change fast in the recruiting world, and out of nowhere the Louisville Cardinals appear to have overtaken the field and lead by a nose down the stretch to land the hometown speed demon.
Things changed rapidly after Brents took an official visit to Pittsburgh the weekend of January the 19th. It appeared the Panthers had everything locked up and Brents was set to give them a verbal commitment the Tuesday thereafter. Such wasn't the case however, as the realities of leaving his support system so far away caused hesitation in pulling the trigger on a commitment.
Brents and his god father reached out to the Louisville staff to determine if it was possible to sneak him in to tis year's class and Louisville decided to set up a meeting. After some calculus was performed and a few meetings between the staff, Brents is a take. The exact specifications were not made public but it appears Brents will be able to fit in the class, without taking a scholarship from any of the current targets louisville is pursuing.
His recruitment is not a done deal at the moment as Cincinnati is pushing hard and Brents has a good relationship with their staff, and Ole Miss has contacted him, it does seem that Louisville swings a mighty sword when it comes to location, schedule, and his fit in new defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder's system as a slot corner.
Speaking of VanGorder, I'm told his relationship with Brents from when he recruited him a Notre Dame and the efforts of Pete Nochta have been instrumental in putting Louisville in such a strong position.
