Despite message board banter suggesting that Darrin Williams is a "soft" verbal to Cincinnati and entertaining offers from other schools, the Detroit running back told BearcatLair on Sunday night that he is still solidly a Bearcat.
Darrin spoke to the continued rumors of his being categorized as a "soft" verbal to the Bearcats. "Right now, everything is still the same. I'm still 100% a Bearcat. I'm not going on any other visits, and I haven't gone on any other visits. The only visit was to Cincinnati. I was asked to take some other visits, but I wasn't really feeling it. Everything is still the same except I've been putting on weight so I can come in and play right away. I'm getting bigger and stronger."

Darrin said he's added ten pounds since the end of his high school season. After helping lead Martin Luther King High School to the Michigan state championship, Williams said he weighted 165 pounds. Now he's tipping the scales at 175 pounds. Darrin is looking forward to getting to Cincinnati and starting work with Paul Longo, the excellent Bearcat strength and conditioning coach.
Williams admitted to being a bit anxious like all Cincinnati football fans when Coach Kelly's name continued to pop up as a candidate to fill the coaching vacancies at other BCS schools. "Yeah, yeah. I was supposed to go to Iowa on a visit, but that was when all the rumors were going around about Coach Kelly. I didn't want to go if the rumors weren't true so I called and talked with Coach Gilmore, and he said the rumors weren't true. I also talked to Brandon (Kay) about it, and he was confident everything would be fine so that's when I cancelled my visit."
Cincinnati fans can apparently rest easy. Williams said he will sign his binding letter of intent to officially become a Bearcat on Wednesday, February 6th.
