Kelce Selected By Kansas City

CINCINNATI - Former University of Cincinnati tight end Travis Kelce (Cleveland Hts., Ohio/Cleveland Hts.) was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2013 NFL Draft with the first pick of the third round, the No. 61 choice overall.

It is the seventh straight year a UC player has been selected in the NFL Draft.

He's the first UC player to be taken by the Kansas City Chiefs since Derrick Ransom was selected in the sixth round in 1998. Former Bearcats All-American Mardy Gilyard was signed as a free agent by the Chiefs over the winter.

Kelce was one of the top tight ends in the country in 2012, earning First-Team All-BIG EAST honors and finishing as UC's leading receiver with 45 catches for 722 yards and eight scores. He set the UC single-season mark for receptions, yards receiving and touchdowns by a tight end. He caught the game winner in the 2012 Belk Bowl, hauling in an 83-yarder down the seam from QB Brendon Kay with under a minute left in the game. It was the longest scoring play and TD pass in Belk Bowl history.

He was selected for the 2013 Senior Bowl and NFL Combine.
