First BCS offer for Washington

Friday morning Devin Washington picked up his first BIG EAST offer, second overall.

Florida International opened the proceedings. As of January 13th Cincinnati has joined.

"It happened today," said Jones High Football Coach Kenard Lang. "There are a lot of other schools, but those are the two that have come to the table right now."

Coach Lang just finished his fourth year with Orlando's Jones High School. Washington will be his seventh player to attend college on a full-ride football scholarship.

Jones High also placed Willie Scott (Iowa State), Jamal Massey (Southern), Cameron Montgomery and Clim Robbins (Chattanooga), and Steven Michael (Colorado State) in promising, sustainable college destinations.

All five are still enrolled in their first choice, a promising reflection of their determination and viability.

Class of 2012 graduate Duaron Williams recently verbally committed to Iowa State.

Devin the young man

Beyond his football gifts, Coach Lang is very proud of Devin's character.

"He has great work ethic," said Coach Lang. "He does everything you want from a football player. He is a natural born leader."

As for the position he projects to Devin could become the next Walter Stewart. He has the same hybrid potential as incoming freshman Josh Posley too.

"I think he is athletic enough to be either or," said Coach Lang. "He could be great rush end. Or he could be great outside linebacker. It it a plus to him that he is able to do both."

Devin's half-brother, Nick Washington, has numerous offers including Alabama, Vanderbilt, Clemson, Florida State, Notre Dame, and Auburn.

The brothers are both ramping up their recruitment with Nick collecting astonishing early interest. The pair have discussed a joint college decision but you never know.

A few schools that are recruiting both are Florida and Miami. Coach Lang says that Devin is hearing from Ohio State, as well.

Assistant Coach Mark Elder has been scouting Washington for some time. Coach Elder ordinarily focuses on Tennessee and Central Ohio, but did recruit Ti'on Green of the Class of 2012.
