Kater and Montague ready to repeat

West Michigan's game of the week showcased last year's Division 6 state championship team in the Montague Wildcats facing off against the Muskegon Oakridge Eagles. Three out of the last four years the Eagle's have dominated the conference and the Wildcats have been simply a speed bump for Oakridge. Entering Friday's matchup with Montague the Eagle's had a 33 game win streak in their conference; Cody Kater and the Wildcats had other plans then becoming the 34th win.

The Wildcats started off strong by scoring on 3 of its first 5 plays from scrimmage, jumping out to a quick 21-0 lead midway through the first quarter. To start the 2nd quarter, quarterback Cody Kater led his team on an impressive drive completing 5 of 7 pass attempts for 60 yards and a touchdown. The signal caller also had three runs for 21 yards to pick up key 1st downs. The Wildcats went into halftime with a commanding 28-0 lead.

To start the second half, Kater and the offense marched down the field thanks to large part of a 51 yard pass, putting the Wildcats on the 9 yard line. Kater completed another touchdown pass the very next play to put the Wildcats ahead 35-0 and they never looked back. For t he night, Kater went 13-17 for 177 yards with 2 touchdowns and 7 rushes for 53 yards in another game where he didn't play the full four quarters due to the lopsided score.

It was a huge victory for the Wildcat nation. Kater gave much credit to his team's success over Oakridge to the stellar defensive performance his teammates put on. Oakridge was held to 64 yards rushing and only 12 passing yards.

"When you have a defense playing as well as they are, it really makes life on a quarterback really easy" said Kater.

Kater and the Wildcats travel this Friday to archrival Whitehall in another West Conference marquee matchup. With the win Friday Montague improved to an unbeaten record of 4-0 and plan to add one more this Friday. If Kater and the offense keep scoring at will and with a defense that is solid throughout they are the team to beat in the West Conference.

The Central Michigan commit has already shown that his team is ready to repeat.

Look for a more in depth interview with Cody Kater very soon.
