Aggies hoopsters impress Team USA coach

Bob Hoffman knows basketball.

He's coached college basketball at every level in the past 20 years, he's been a head coach in Division I at Texas-Pan American, and was most recently an assistant at Oklahoma.

Hoffman has spent the past week acting as the head coach of Team USA at the Global Games in Dallas and has been working first hand with Texas A&M freshmen Bryan Davis, Bryan Beasley, Donald Sloan, and Derrick Roland.

If anyone is qualified to give a synopsis on the future of A&M basketball, it's Hoffman.

Websider.com talked to Hoffman yesterday at the Team USA practice to get his thoughts on the four Aggies. Hoffman began by describing the talents of the point guard from the Pflugerville point guar.

"Beasley is real heady and already understands the game," said Hoffman. "He's very unselfish. He is just one of those guys that will get better and better. You just enjoy being around him. He's fun to coach."

Hoffman describes Sloan as a throwback to the days of Jerry West and Oscar Robertson when asked if Sloan could play the point.

"I think he can play the point, but he can play either guard position," he said. "I just think he is a guard like in the old days when you didn't have them separated into ones and twos. He can play wherever he wants to play."
