Florida safety wants to visit
Lauderdale Lakes (Fla.) Boyd Anderson safety Brandon Butler has built a solid relationship with Texas Tech assistant coach Otis Mounds, and he recently added an offer from the Red Raiders.
"Texas Tech has showed me a lot of love. I talk to them pretty often and I called Coach Mounds just the other day to see how things were going with him and the team," Butler said. "Our relationship is really good. We communicate really well and after talking to Coach Mounds for a while I just want to get out there and see what they're all about. I just want to get there and be able to evaluate everything. I want to take a look at their facilities and their campus. The way he's talked about it, it sounds like it's all really nice."
At this point, Tech is one of three programs Butler is planning on visiting this fall.
"I haven't taken any visits this summer. I'm waiting until September 1st and then I'm going to start taking all of my official visits," he said. "I definitely plan on taking one of those visits to Texas Tech. Right now I also want to see LSU and Auburn. Those three are the schools that I'm really focused on right now."
It turns out that distance will be a part of the 6-foot-2, 190-pounder's decision, but not in the way most would think.
"I guess distance would kind of be a factor because I would like to be at a school away from home," he said. "I want to leave Florida and just experience something new. I want to get out somewhere that will give me a new environment."
Butler doesn't plan on making any decisions until he's seen a few programs in person.
"I'll be making a decision pretty soon after I take some of my visits," he said. "I want to see the schools in person before I decide to commit anywhere. If I like one of them and it feels like the best fit, then I may commit while I'm there. I do plan on being there in person before I make any decisions, though."
