Tech has Grant's attention

Mesquite (Texas) Horn wide receiver Jakeem Grant has been committed to Tulsa since July, but a recent offer from the Red Raiders may have changed things for the 2011 prospect.

"I've been talking with Coach Neal Brown for just a little while. We only recently started building a relationship, so it's still kind of new," Grant said. "He's a cool guy. We talk about a lot of things other than football and that's not something every coach does. I've liked what he's had to say so far."

"They decided to offer me and so now I'm trying to decide what I want to do with it. You could say that the offer from Tech has changed my situation a little bit. We'll see what happens, I guess."

Grant has been to Lubbock once before, and is hoping to make another visit in the near future.

"I want to get up there and visit the program sometime soon. I'd say before the end of January. They've got a lot of there other commits coming up there after the holidays, so I'm thinking about making a trip up there myself."

The 5-foot-7, 157-pounder is not very familiar with Texas Tech as a program, but he is beginning to get an idea of how he could be used in Neal Brown's offense.

"Coach Brown has talked to me some about how I'd fit into their system. He talks about my ability to make plays in space and how they're looking for guys like that, so it sounds like I'd be a pretty good fit in his plans for the future."

Even though Texas Tech has "changed the situation" with Grant and his commitment to Tulsa, he still wants to make a visit to West Texas before making any decisions.

"Something may happen here soon, or it could be a little while. I'm going to take a visit when I get a chance and then see what happens after that. They did get my attention, and to be honest, I'm excited to find out what they've got going on up there and see it all for myself."

Grant is currently committed to Tulsa, and holds offers from Colorado State, Iowa State, Texas Tech, and Wake Forest among others.
