2012 Memphis receiver talks UA

The Alabama Crimson Tide landed two of the Memphis-area's top prospects in the 2010 recruiting class, including Mitchell High School star Keiwone Malone. Now the Tide is pursuing another Mitchell wide receiver in 6-foot-1, 180-pound junior Nathan Cole. The son of MItchell head coach Nathan Cole Sr., the 2012 prospect has played a prominent role in each of his first two seasons with the team and figures to be the team's top receiving threat this season. With offers in from Ole Miss and Alabama already, Cole's recruiting buzz has been strong early.

"I've been to camps at Ole Miss and Alabama so far and I was also in Tuscaloosa for the 7-on-7 tournament earlier this year," Cole said. "We're doing really well with the 7-on-7 squad we've put together and we're going to be playing in a few more tournaments this month as well."

"It's really helpful to have my dad helping me out with a lot of this recruiting stuff because he's helped so many other kids deal with it and he really knows how everything works."

Cole has had a chance to speak with Malone since the former teammate arrived on campus in Tuscaloosa, giving Cole some insight into what life is like with the Crimson Tide.

"I've talked to Keiwone a few times since he got to Alabama and he's told me kind of how things work down there. They all work extremely hard but they also have a great time and they all really support each other."

Cole also said he won't shy away from a run-heavy offense like Alabama's and that his number one concern isn't running up his own stats in college.

"I'm a wide receiver that really loves to block. It's a part of the game that I actually enjoy, so I really don't have a problem playing in a more run-oriented offense. I love to make plays but the most important things for me are getting a great education and winning."

With more offers likely to come in soon, Cole hasn't yet planned out his unofficial visit schedule for the fall but knows at least one game he'll be attending for sure.

"I know I'll be going to Alabama, Ole Miss and Southern Miss games this fall but the only game so far that I know for sure that I'm going to is Alabama vs. Ole Miss. That will be a great opportunity for me to get a chance to see both of those teams."
