First SEC offer arrives for Alabama DE

Recently, Birmingham (Ala.) John Carroll defensive end Kameron Wood picked up a Vanderbilt offer to add to his first offer of South Alabama. That Vanderbilt offer came immediately on the heels of his visit to Nashville for Vanderbilt's Super Saturday event. Both the event and the offered were exciting for Wood.

"The trip went well," Wood said. "I enjoyed the trip a lot. It was one of my favorite junior days. One of my favorite parts about it was talking to the coaches and they also fed us pretty well."

Wood spent most of his time dealing with new defensive ends coach Mike Pelton, defensive line coach Rick Logo and his recruiting coach Robbie Caldwell.

"I enjoyed the coaches a lot," he said. "They were very good coaches and represented themselves well and the program well. They told me about how they were going to use me. They said they would put me at end and I'd be the rush end and the weakside end. They said they liked me as soon as they saw me on film and said then and there that they'd like me at Vanderbilt."

The Vanderbilt coaches were not just giving lip service. When Wood returned home, he was quickly followed by an offer from the Commodores on Monday, directly from head coach Bobby Johnson.

"I was kind of interested that I knew I wanted to be somewhere playing in the SEC," he said. "That's always been a dream of mine to play in the SEC not just to play against the SEC."

More opportunities may soon arise for Wood. Over the weekend, he will be visiting either Mississippi State or Illinois. He has also been to junior days at Alabama and Auburn while most of his attention to this point has come from Auburn, Mississippi State, Alabama and Tennessee.

Though he grew up a fan of the Auburn Tigers, Wood is just looking for a home, preferably in the SEC.

"I grew up an Auburn fan but as time wore on and the recruiting process wore on, you kind of get a feel for the other schools," he said. "I know for a sure fact that I want to play in the SEC. The SEC is the greatest conference out there so if anything, I'd like to play in the SEC."
