Redmond surprised by second offer

Last week, Harrison Central junior offensive lineman Nick Redmond was surprised with his second scholarship offer.

The 6-foot-6, 305-pounder, who committed to Mississippi State in late September, received a fax Monday from the Bulldogs rival Ole Miss seeking his services.

"It surprised me because Ole Miss really hasn't sent me a whole lot of stuff," Redmond said. "They faxed it which was kind of weird to me. Coach (Ronnie) Cuevas said that he had never seen one faxed before. But I thought it was pretty cool that they offered but it's not going to change anything. I'm pretty set on State."

Two days prior to receiving the offer from the Rebels, Redmond watched his future teammates celebrate their 41-27 Egg Bowl victory taking possession of the Golden Egg Trophy and bragging rights in the Magnolia State.

"It was fun," Redmond said of his Egg Bowl visit. "I like how (Mississippi State's) tempo is on the sideline. Even when they were down they were still going and their team was still fighting. After the game we went into their locker room and just the way that Coach (Dan) Mullen gave his speech to the team, I liked that. I like the way that he is running his program up there."

Redmond was one of the first members of the 2011 class the Bulldog coaching staff targeted and he has kept in touch with them since his commitment.
