With Rutgers announcing their departure from Big East Tuesday afternoon the Big East leaders will need to find a new team for the East. More importantly they need to make this league a destination league and not a League of Emigrating Gentlemen. How do you keep a team like Louisville, Cincinnati, or UConn from making this same move should a spot in the ACC or Big 12 become available?

This article is pretty ordinary, but the hundreds of fan comments afterwards are fascinating. Worth the read to get Rutgers' fanbase perspective on the move.
As a UC fan do you want Cincinnati to stay put or desperately seek inclusion in another conference? We all know Big 10 is out of bounds since Ohio State doesn't want the competition from UC. Is Big 12 still the dream? Do you attempt to hop into ACC? Louisville is desperate to move. They were even willing to pay FSU's exit fee from the ACC (to Big 12) when that push still had legs. UConn keeps angling for ACC, but the Floridian schools are non-plussed about their competitive advantage by adding such a meek football program. Big East football continues to resemble the house 20 minutes after the party ended. Disheveled and burdensome for anyone willing to fix the problem. Respect from national audience matters in the current system of selecting champions/bowl entrants and Big East still doesn't have it fully.

Wow - so many changes so quickly for all of these teams. I think Cincy could compete well in the Big 12. The ACC is such a powerhouse that Cincy would be clobbered quite a bit in basketball for sure, but they could attract more talent being in that top notch conference.
I don't think Rutgers is going to fair well in Big 10 basketball, likely in the middle of the pack in football. Cincy would play basketball well in the big 10 but Ohio would likely blackball them.
I'd like to know how the decisions are made...which sport pushes the issue and how other sports within the school get to respond. Do we know the opinions of Cronin or Jones? I think it probably comes down to money...like everything.
It will be interesting to see what happens...get on the rollercoaster....

I'm sick of this! UC keeps winning and the conference keeps losing. They aren't living up to their end of the bargain and are not making this a place Cincinnati should want to stay. All Coach Jones and Coach Cronin can do is keep winning like they are. Go UC!

Maryland and Rutgers going to the Big 10...interesting. I grew up in Big 10 country - the Midwest. Now two far east schools are joining...Penn State was bad enough. I guess regional conferences are disappearing. Even the Big East has west teams now...San Diego???? I hope Cincinnati will find a good respectable home. It could be staying in the Big East...but unless some quality schools come it...it will be tough to compete at a high level. Pitino respects UC but if Louisville leaves for the ACC that will surely lessen the respect for the Big East.
Anxious to see what happens in the next few days, weeks and even years. Good luck to UC.
