Are Bulls pursuing former IU commit?
Deonta Vaughn is a skilled combo guard from Cincinnati's Harmony Prep who is known most for his shooting ability and good decision making. He is a strong, stocky guard and has the body (5-11, 190) to play in a large competitive conference. Vaughn, who starred at Arlington High School in Indianapolis prior to prep school, was an Indiana University commit last fall, but decided to reopen his recruitment. He and teammate Marcus Rhodes have both been connected to USF. USFBullsEYE.com caught up with Vaughn to find out the latest.
USFBullsEYE.com: How's your season going so far?
Vaughn: It's going pretty well. We (Harmony Prep) are 20-3, however, we have had some things happen recently. Our coach was just fired (Travis McAvene was let go on Jan. 17), and I have had an injury.
Q: What type of injury did you have?
Vaughn: It's a high ankle sprain, and I originally thought I broke it. I have been out for a week and a half. I'm taking it day by day right now.
Q: Are you going to participate in the Chicago tournament (Feb 10-12)?
Vaughn: No, I don't think I will be able to play by then.
Q: How is your recruitment going?
Vaughn: The communication has slowed down ever since my coach was fired. So far that's been the tough part. I am still in touch with Illinois and Arizona State, however, I have not heard from South Florida in a while, especially since my coach is gone.
Q: Did you recently take the ACT? If so, how did you do?
Vaughn: I got a 15 and I still need a 17 to fully qualify.
Q: Would you be interested in talking with South Florida, should they get in touch with you?
Vaughn: Definitely, I would like that.
Q: What are you looking for in a school?
Vaughn: I want to take my visits and then make a decision. Early playing time is a factor. I don't want to sit my first year.
