Buckeyes host a suprise visitor
With just two regular season games remaining, the end of the 2010 season is near for the Ohio State Buckeyes. That means the coaching staff is gearing up to close out the 2011 recruiting class with a bang.
On Saturday, the Buckeyes hosted a surprise visitor, who witnessed a thrilling comeback victory over Penn State.
Rodriguez Coleman, a 6-foot-3, 185-pound wide receiver from LaSalle High School in Cincinnati was on hand for an unofficial visit and he liked what saw.
"I loved it up there," Coleman said. "It was a nice campus and they have a bunch of excellent coaches."
Coleman, who verbally committed to Cincinnati in October, said he was in Columbus at the request of the Buckeyes coaches. He said he remains committed to the Bearcats but doesn't want to close any doors before signing day.
"I was just keeping my options open and just getting the feelings of other schools," he said.
During his visit, Coleman chatted with Director of Football Operations Greg Gillum.
"He said they were glad to see me show up and was talking about my great season," Coleman said. "He said they need film on me."
As of now, Cincinnati is the only school to extend to Coleman a scholarship offer. That could change after the Buckeyes view his senior highlights, which will show him catch 43 passes for 829 yards and 14 touchdowns.
Should the Buckeyes offer, Coleman would have a difficult decision to make.
"I really don't know what I'd do," he said. "I would have to talk to my parents on that one."
Weighing heavily on that decision would be his relationship with current Buckeyes wide receiver, Devier Posey, a former LaSalle teammate.
"He's the one that taught me what I know," Coleman said. "I look up to him and we play the same position. From the looks of it, he's doing well up there so I think it would be a good fit."
Coleman has no other visits planned, but that could change as the recruiting process heats up in the next couple of months.
