Miss. State commit takes in Ole Miss junior day
When Nick Redmond left Gulfport, Miss., at 3 a.m. Saturday morning, he didn't really know what to expect.
The destination was junior day at Ole Miss, and the 6-foot-6, 305-pound offensive lineman - who is committed to Mississippi State - had never seen the Rebels' campus and football facilities.
The experience was a pleasant surprise.
"It was really nice, actually," Redmond said. "I didn't think they would have that nice of a facility. I knew it would be all right, but I didn't expect it to be that nice. The indoor field and all is so new and pretty cool.
"The coaching staff was cool and easy to talk to, but the facilities stood out. Really nice."
Redmond grew up around Mississippi State, and the Bulldogs were his first offer. He committed to Mississippi State Sept. 26, and Ole Miss followed with an offer to arguably Mississippi's top offensive lineman in December.
The early commitment to MSU has created a strange deal for Redmond, especially since he hasn't taken many trips and seen many campuses. He admits to not fully understanding the situation when he committed, but at the same time, he's not one to go back on his choice.
"Honestly, I had no idea what I was doing when I committed," Redmond said. "I was excited about that first offer. I really don't know what I'm going to do.
"But I'm pretty true to my word."
Redmond plans to attend Alabama's junior day this weekend and Mississippi State's on March 13.
"It's really important for me to see what different schools have going for them before I sign," Redmond said.
