Kater reports other schools interest; still committed to CMU
The last time ChippewaCountry spoke with Montague (MI) quarterback Cody Kater, he was fresh off a second straight state championship and had just ended his high school football career as one of the top quarterbacks in the state.
"It went pretty well," said Kater on his football career at Montague. "I had probably the best high school experience anyone could ask for. You know, we won back to back state championships, and you can't ask for anything better than that. Overall, I had a pretty good high school experience and I can't wait to start my college one."
Currently Kater is in the midst of basketball season as the 6-foot-4 athlete is also a standout on the hardwood.
"Our season is going pretty well, we're undefeated and we actually have a game tonight."
While Kater is excelling in basketball for Montague, it is on the football field where he will play in college. Kater is currently committed to Central Michigan, but things got complicated once Butch Jones left for Cincinnati.
""I had a feeling, my gut feeling said he was leaving," said Kater on Jones departure. "He's a good coach and he was just looking to do better for his family. My reaction was good for him and I wish him nothing but the best."
Despite Jones exit as head coach at CMU, Kater reports he is still committed to the Chippewas.
"My status is I'm committed to CMU," added Kater. "I've opened it up a little, but not really. I'm committed to CMU and I'm just waiting to see what happens with the coaching change and I'll go from there."
Kater has also been in touch with a few other CMU commits throughout the change.
"I talk to Kevin Henry probably the most, and I talked to Andy Phillips a bit. Those are the two guys I really talk to."
Northwestern and Cincinnati are the two schools that have been contacting Kater the most during the Chippewas head coach search.
